Nato dalla passione per l’architettura spagnola e per il lavoro all’aria aperta dei gestori, l’agriturismo e luxury house The Range, un lotto di 120 acri nell’entroterra australiano di Byron Bay, è diventata la perfetta via di fuga dalla frenesia della città. Il terreno in origine era selvaggio e accidentato, con una vecchia casa colonica e alcuni annessi ma, grazie all’aiuto di un team di creativi capitanati dall’architetto Dominic Finlay Jones e dai paesaggisti di Booyong Rainforest Creation, il risultato finale è la perfetta fusione di una fattoria australiana con le influenze spagnole della Finca, caratterizzata da pareti interne ed esterne morbide e strutturate, ispirate alle estati spagnole, alternate ad altre rivestite in legno scuro che ricordano i ranch australiani. In aggiunta all’estetica, l’onnipresente e stupefacente sfondo della natura che cambia ad ogni finestra man mano che la giornata si svolge. Nel corso della ristrutturazione si sono mantenuti quanto più possibile muri e materiali, incorporando le vecchie tegole di terracotta, gli ampi pergolati e le verande che circondano gli edifici; il resto dell’arredo e dei materiali di costruzione sono stati recuperati da commerci locali, in un’ottica ecologica che è stata la guida alla progettazione e alla gestione sostenibile dell’agriturismo. I materiali naturali sono intervallati a dettagli in cemento sia all’interno sia all’esterno dove una lastra di questo materiale, scaldandosi al sole, fornisce il riscaldamento per  gli ambienti nei mesi più freddi. L’assenza di comodità date ormai per scontate e la necessità di vivere gli spazi esterni rendono The Range una casa, un luogo, una destinazione e un centro per coloro che cercano di immergersi nella ricchezza che è la bella architettura e la natura circostante, con una coscienza per l’ambiente.

Born from the passion for Spanish architecture and for the outdoor work of managers, the farmhouse and luxury house The Range, a lot of 120 acres in the Australian outback of Byron Bay, has become the perfect escape from the frenzy of the city. The terrain was originally wild and rough, with an old farmhouse and some out buildings but, thanks to the help of a creative team led by architect Dominic Finaly Jones and by landscapers from Booyong Rainforest Creation, the final result is the perfect fusion of an Australian farm with the Spanish influence from Finca, characterized by soft and structured walls inside and outside, inspired by Spanish summers, alternating with others covered in dark wood reminiscent of Australian ranches. In addition to aesthetics, the omnipresent and amazing background of nature that changes at each window as the day unfolds. During the course of the renovation as many walls and materials as possible were maintained, incorporating the old terracotta tiles, the large pergolas and the verandas surrounding the buildings; the rest of the furniture and construction materials were recovered from local businesses, in an ecological perspective that had been the guide to the design and sustainable management of the farm. The natural materials were interspersed with concrete details both inside and outside where the slab of this material, warming up in the sun, provides heating for the rooms in the colder months. The absence of conveniences taken for granted now and the necessity to live in outdoor spaces make The Range a house, a place, a destination and a center for those that seek to emerge themselves in the the richness that is the beautiful architecture and the surrounding nature, with a conscience for the environment.
