Situato a una ventina di chilometri dalla famosa Woodstock e appoggiato su una collina con una vista privilegiata sulle vicine Hunter mountains, lo Scribner’s Catskill Lodge vanta un’estetica moderna ma rustica, che mette in risalto sia il buon design che l’ampia vista sulle montagne. Questa pensione degli anni Sessanta nello stato di New York è stata recentemente trasformata in un affascinante boutique hotel dallo studio di design Studio Tack di Brooklyn. Lo Scribner’s Catskill Lodge è stato originariamente costruito come motor lodge che permetteva agli ospiti di guidare attraverso il precedente accesso drive-up, ora sede dell’ingresso principale e della reception dell’hotel, che funge sia da punto accoglienza per gli ospiti ma anche da area ricreativa comune, ed è completo di biblioteca, tavolo da biliardo, e lounge con caminetto. Al piano inferiore si trova la zona ristoro decorata con pannelli di legno chiaro disposti in diagonale e incorniciati da assi di legno tinteggiato di nero; la sala ha anche delle belle cabine a incasso, tutte rifinite con la stessa tonalità scura e comprende anche l’accesso a un ampio spazio terrazzato che offre una vista laterale alternata sulla valle.Pulite, contemporanee e leggermente anticonformiste, ognuna delle 38 camere uniche ha pavimenti in acero scuro, tappeti vintage e mobili su misura; inoltre, la maggior parte, ha grandi finestre e balconi privati con vista sulle Catskill Mountains, e alcune offrono caminetti e spazi per dormire in mansarda. Tutti i bagni hanno piastrelle in terracotta, un soffione per la doccia a pioggia e prodotti da bagno di provenienza locale. Il detto “sono le cose semplici della vita che la rendono straordinaria” potrebbe essere un luogo comune, ma descrive perfettamente l’esperienza dello Scribner, allora come oggi rifugio per gli urbanisti, gli avventurieri e i creativi.

Located about twenty kilometers from the famous Woodstock and resting on a hill with a privileged view of the nearby Hunter mountains, Scribner’s Catskill Lodge features a modern but rustic aesthetic, that highlights both good design and the wide view of the mountains. This lodge from the sixties in the sate of New York has recently been transformed into a charming boutique hotel by the design studio called Studio Tack from Brooklyn. The Scribner’s Catskill Lodge was originally constructed as a motor lodge that permitted guests to drive through the previous access drive-up, now home to the main entrance and the reception of the hotel, that serves both as a reception point for the guests but also common recreation area, and is complete with a library, billiard table, and lounge with a fireplace. On the lower floor is the refreshment area decorated with light wood panels arranged diagonally and framed by black-painted wooden planks; the hall also has nice built-in booths, all finished with the same dark tones and also includes access to a large terraced area that offers an alternating side view of the valley. Clean, contemporary and lightly nonconformist, each of the 38 unique rooms has dark maple floors, vintage carpets and custom furniture; also, the large part, have large windows and private balconies with a view of the Catskill Mountains, and some offer fireplaces and spaces to sleep in the attic. All the bathrooms have terracotta tiles, a rain shower head and locally sourced bath products. The saying “the small things in life are what make it extraordinary” could be commonplace, but perfectly describes the experience of the Scribner, today as a refuge for urban planners, adventurers, and creatives.
