Siamo a Barcellona, la città che non dorme mai. Eppure qualcuno sembra ancora voler una camera d’albergo con ogni comodità. E non una camera qualunque, una camera al Alexandra Hotel.

A due passi da Casa Batllo’ troviamo questa struttura rinnovata da Borrell Jover Arquitectura, uno studio di architettura di Barcellona. Il loro lavoro è stato quello di creare un connubio tra l’antico e il nuovo, come si può notare subito dalle ampie finestre all’ingresso che si “incastrano” tra le colonne esistenti dell’edificio quasi senza infisso, o le camere da letto, provviste di un arredamento moderno, minimal, pulito e lineare dai toni caldi, in contrapposizione con il soffito che presenta ancora gli originali decori in gesso e il pavimento decorato da piastrelle tipiche spagnole. Queste camere possono dare l’idea di un hotel piccolo o comunque modesto dato il lavoro che c’è stato dietro alla ristrutturazione, ma ci lascia sorpresi il fatto che sono invece presenti 116 stanze, di diverse misure e tipologie, con o senza balcone,con o senza sedie dello studio di designCharles e Ray Eames, con o senza vasca da bagno in balcone, matrimoniale, singola o suite, e addirittura con o senza vasca idromassaggio in camera! Oltre alle svariate misure di camere abbiamo anche un ristorante dell’hotel che si chiama Solomillo, in cui si possono gustare bistecche di controfiletto e tagli di carne di diverso tipo, diverse cotture e diversi sapori, il tutto accompagnato dalle verdure del giardino. Subito all’ingresso dell’hotel, quasi come in vetrina, troviamo i divani e poggiapiedi Tufty-Time della designer spagnola Patricia Urquiola, che etichettano questa area come l’area relax. Uscendo al di fuori troviamo uno splendido patio straripante di vasi di piante, butterfly chairs,comode poltrone, tavoloni in legno, sedie diverse, illuminazione di design e una copertura minimal in ferro, sotto la quale si possono gustare le tapas del bar Charcuteria, che fa sempre parte dell’hotel.

Un hotel mediterraneo, con un accento nordico e una clientela da tutto il mondo.

We are in Barcelona, the city that never sleeps.  Despite this, some people still seem to want a hotel room with every comfort, and not just any room, a room at the Alexandra Hotel.

Just a stone’s throw away from Casa Batllo is where we find this structure that has been renovated by Borell Jover Arquitectura, an architectural studio in Barcelona.  Their job was to create a combination of old and new, and their work is immediately noticed at the entrance.  The large windows fit perfectly between the existing columns of the building.  The bedrooms, furnished with modern, minimal, clean, and linear decor of various warm tones, counterbalance the ceiling, which displays original plaster decorations and the floor, which is decorated with traditional Spanish tiles.  These rooms give the impression of a small or modest hotel, despite the work that has gone into the renovation.  We are surprised to find that there are 116 rooms of different sizes and design, some with and without balconies, others with chairs from the design studios of Charles and Ray Eames, and also rooms with a bathtub on the balcony.  There are double and single rooms, suites, and even rooms with a jacuzzi inside!  In addition to the rooms of various design, the hotel also offers a restaurant by the name of Solomillo.  Here, you can experience diverse cooking and flavors through the sirloin steaks and cuts of various kinds of meats, which are all accompanied by fresh vegetables from the garden.  Immediately at the entrance of the hotel, as if they were in the window, we find the Tufty-Time sofas and footrests by Spanish designer, Patricia Urquiola, who has labeled this area as the relaxation area.  Going outside, we find a beautiful patio that is overflowing with plants, butterfly chairs, comfortable armchairs, wooden tables, a wonderful lighting design, and a minimal cover made of iron, under which you can enjoy tapas from the bar Charcuteria, that is also part of the hotel.
