Un grande appartamento di Göteborg affascina con il suo look nordico ben curato e colori tenui e delicati, ma colpisce per l’uso del materiale che ricorda una tendenza delle arti dei primi anni Cinquanta: un approccio alla resa delle pareti materiche, che privilegia cioè la funzione espressiva della materia in quanto tale; i muri in cemento sono dunque lasciati grezzi, non lavorati né intonacati e l’effetto è a dir poco strabiliante. Lo stile generalmente rilassato e volutamente imperfetto si rifà in qualche modo alla tradizione del wabi sabi – ecco anche perché vengono prediletti materiali naturali come il legno di parquet e superfici di appoggio e tessuti morbidi come cuscini, tappeti berberi e persiani, ma anche leggeri come le candide tende attorno al letto o della discreta lampada in soggiorno. La casa tuttavia non manca di stile, ed alterna mobili moderni e dal look più fresco come il piccolo tavolo rotondo con piano in marmo della cucina in grigio, o la cassettiera in legno ridipinta di bianco dal tocco decisamente più industriale, ad altri antichi e originali di questi spazi di inizio ‘900, in particolare le due bellissime stufe in maiolica tutt’ora funzionanti, che assicurano un piacevole tepore anche nelle giornate più fredde dell’inverno scandinavo.

A large apartment in Gothenburg fascinates with its well-kept Nordic look and soft, delicate colours, but it is striking for the use of material that recalls a trend in the arts of the early 1950s: an approach to the rendering of material walls that favours the expressive function of the material; the concrete walls are therefore left rough, unworked or plastered and the effect is nothing short of astonishing. The generally relaxed and deliberately imperfect style is in some way based on the tradition of wabi sabi – this is also why natural materials such as parquet and support surfaces are preferred, as are soft fabrics such as cushions, Berber and Persian carpets, but also as light as the white curtains around the bed or the discreet lamp in the living room. The house, however, does not lack in style, and alternates modern furniture with a fresher look such as the small round table with marble top in the kitchen in grey, or the wooden chest of drawers painted white with a decidedly more industrial touch. We also have other ancient and original spaces of the early ‘900, in particular the two beautiful tiled stoves still working, which ensure a pleasant warmth even on the coldest days of the Scandinavian winter.
