Gli acquedotti sono strutture che da sempre risvegliano la vena progettuale che risiede in qualche luogo del mio cervello. Sono spazi grandi, in mezzo a un verde più o meno spoglio, avvolti dal silenzio della periferia, con qualche vetro rotto, che suscita sensazioni un po’ arcaiche di inquietudine. Appena li vedo mi immagino a come sfruttare quel luogo per creare, perché no, un’abitazione. Ecco, per oggi dimentichiamo le immagini un po’ decadenti a cui siamo abituati e immergiamoci nel cuore dell’Inghilterra, a Bolsover, una cittadina a metà strada tra Nottingham e Manchester. Qui il mio pensiero è stato messo in pratica e il risultato credo superi decisamente le aspettative, forse grazie all’atmosfera leggermente anni ’70, con le sensuali Panton rosse dell’omonimo Verner Panton , la bubble chair in pvc by Eero Aarnio e i mattoni a vista. Colpisce come tutto sia incredibilmente amalgamato a ottenere un’ambiente accogliente e arioso.

Le pareti grezze in cemento e mattoni a vista sono decisamente un’affermazione di carattere, per un risultato perfettamente aderente al contesto. Sembra siano sempre stati li..e cosi è in effetti! Il vecchio acquedotto degli anni ’30 è stato magistralmente riconvertito in un appartamento con i pavimenti in legno dall’aria viva, e in un perfetto luogo di unione di simmetrie e colore.

Aqueducts are structures that always awaken the design vein that resides somewhere inside my brain. They are large spaces in the middle of relatively bare green areas, wrapped up in the silence of the suburbs, with broken glass that arouses some archaic feelings of anxiety.  As soon as I see them, I think about how to I might use the place to create, why not, a residence. So for today we will forget about the somewhat decadent photographs that we are used to and we will immerse ourselves in the heart of England, in Bolsover, a village halfway between Nottingham and Manchester. Here, my thoughts have been put into practice and I feel that the results definitely exceed the expectations; this could be thanks to the slightly 70s atmosphere—with the sensual red Panton chair by its namesake Verner Panton, the bubble chair in pvc by Eero Aarnio, and the exposed brick walls. It’s striking how everything comes together so well, making for a welcoming and airy environment.

The unrefined walls in cement and exposed brick definitely make a statement, creating a result that is perfectly appropriate for the context. It seems that they were always there… and actually this is the case! The old aqueduct from the 30s was masterfully redeveloped into an apartment with wooden floors that is a perfect location full of unity, symmetry and color.
