Uno degli aspetti più divertenti e stimolanti di occuparsi di un blog è la possibilità di curiosare e viaggiare tutt’intorno al mondo  anche senza muoversi dalla propria scrivania. Essendo una grande appassionata di viaggi e una grande curiosa, ho deciso di inserire nel blog un paio di rubriche mensili che parlano delle mie piccole scoperte e in particolare di luoghi interessanti o curiosi che vi voglio proporre.  Per restare fedeli allo spirito di “in the mood for design” il tema principale resterà il design e il design di interni. Vi scriverò di ristoranti, location, bar o casa in affitto nelle varie località che andremo a visitare sia “realmente” che virtualmente.

Il nostro primo viaggio lo facciamo ad Amburgo, città del Nord della Germania, che spesso viene trascurata come meta turistica, ma che sicuramente è da annoverare tra le città più interessanti e chic della Germania. Sebbene il mare si trovi a circa 100 km dalla città, tramite il fiume Elba, molto ampio e navigabile anche da grandi mercantili, Amburgo è  una delle più grandi e trafficate città portuali d’Europa. La sua essenza di città marinara si riconosce sia nell’architettura che nelle abitudini e nei costumi degli abitanti. Famosa è la zona del magazzini, Speicherstadt, costruiti tra il 1883 e gli anni ’20 in stile gotico, che nel 2015 sono diventati patrimonio dell’Umanità dell’Unesco e che con le loro costruzioni in mattoni scuri rendono affascinante e unica questa città che nel suo carattere assomiglia molto alle città scandinave come Copenhagen e Malmo che distano solo 350 km. Ed è proprio con questo spirito che abbiamo scelto l’Hotel Gastwerk, che si trova all’interno di un ex fabbrica di gas che 120 anni fa portava luce e energia in tutte le case e le strade dei quartieri occidentali di Amburgo. Con il suo stile autenticamente industriale e la sua atmosfera da loft questo Hotel nasce dalla visione del guru degli Hotel Kai Hollmann e dalla progettazione e  talento di Regine Schwethelm, Sibylle von Heyden and Armin Fischer.

One of the most fun and stimulating aspects of managing a blog is having the chance to look and travel all around the world, without ever having to move away from my own desk. Being a huge fan of travel and a really curious individual, I’ve decided to include a couple of monthly columns in this blog to talk about my little discoveries and particularly interesting and intriguing places that I’d like to propose to you. In order to remain loyal to the spirit of “in the mood for design”, the main topic will still be design and interior design. I will write about restaurants, locations, bars or homes that we will be visiting both virtually and “in real life”.

Our first trip will be to Hamburg, a city in the north of Germany, which is often overlooked as a tourist destination but is definitely worth counting among the most interesting and chic cities in Germany. Even though the sea is about 100 km from the city, the Elbe River, which is very wide and navigable even by large merchant ships, makes Hamburg one of the largest and busiest port cities in all of Europe. Its essence as a maritime city is visible in its architecture as well as in the habits and traditions of its residents. The warehouse district Speicherstadt is famous—it was built in Gothic style between 1883 and the 1920s, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015 and with its dark bricks continues to make this city a fascinating and unique place, greatly resembling Scandinavian cities that are only 350 km away, like Copenhagen and Malmo. And it’s with just this spirit that we have chosen Hotel Gastwerk, which is found inside an ex-gas factory that 120 years ago brought light and energy to all of the homes and streets in the eastern neighborhoods of Hamburg. With its authentically industrial style and its loft feeling, this hotel originates from the vision of “hotel guru” Kai Hollman and from the planning and talent of Regine Schwethelm, Sibylle von Heyden and Armin Fischer.
