Il fotografo inglese Jimmy Nelson ha trascorso tre anni viaggiando attraverso le più remote località della terra, per documentare, con la sua macchina fotografica, la realtà di alcune delle più sconosciute tribù del pianeta, molte delle quali a rischio estinzione. Il risultato di questo viaggio è uno straordinario reportage fotografico, raccolto nel libro “Before they pass away” e nel sorprendente sito interattivo, dal quale è possibile cliccare sulle diverse zone della terra e vedere come vivono i popoli che le abitano.

British photographer Jimmy Nelson spent three years traveling to the most remote places of the Planet, to document, with his camera, the reality of some of the most undiscovered tribe of the planet, many of them endangered. The result of this journey is a unique photographic record, collected in the book “Before they pass away” and the amazing interactive website, from which you can click on different areas of the world and see how they live the people that live there.

Dani, Indonesia, tribu situata nella valle di Beliem. I Dani sono agricoltori e alcuni reperti archeologici hanno dimostrato la loro presenza nella valle da 9000 anni

Dani, Indonesia, tribes located in the valley of Beliem. The Dani are farmers and some archaeological finds have shown their presence in the valley dating back to 9000 years ago.

Asaro, Papa Nuova Guinea. La leggenda racconta che gli Uomini di fango per scappare al nemico si dovettero nascondere nel fiume Asaro fino a notte fonda. Quando al calar  delle tenebre uscirono coperti di fango , il nemico terrorizzato credette che fossero spiriti. Tutt’ora la tribù utilizza maschere in fango per spaventare i nemici.

Asaro, Papua New Guinea. Legend has it that the Men of Mud had to hide in the river Asaro into the night to escape the enemy. When nightfall they emerged covered in mud, they terrified the enemy so much so that the enemy thought they were spirits. The tribe still use mud masks to frighten enemies.

Rabarbari, India. Per quasi 1000 anni hanno vissuto nei deserti e nelle pianure che oggi fanno parte dell’India occidentale. Studiando la loro fisionomia Persiana, gli studiosi ipotizzano che i Rabarbari siano migrati dall’Iran mille anni fa.  Oggi vivono nel Gujarat e in Rajasthan.

Rabarbari, India. For nearly 1000 years they have lived in the deserts and plains which are now part of western India. By studying their appearance, scholars speculate that the Rabarbari have migrated from Iran thousand years ago. Today they live in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
